Japan's konbini coffee revolution began around 2013 when 7-Eleven introduced fresh-brewed coffee at the register counter. Within years, all three major chains followed — and the quality benchmark they set is genuinely high. Today, a ¥140–180 convenience store coffee easily beats most café chains in terms of freshness and value. There's no barista involved — the machine brews automatically — but the results are consistently excellent.

☕ Pro Tips for Ordering Konbini Coffee
- All drinks are served black — sugar and milk are always at the condiment stand nearby, free to use. Help yourself.
- S vs R: 7-Eleven uses "R" (Regular) and "L" (Large). Lawson and FamilyMart use "S/M/L". They refer to the same size progression.
- IC card payment — paying with Suica or PASMO is the fastest way. Tap and go — no fumbling for change.
- Ask for the award blend: Both Lawson (モカブレンド) and FamilyMart (モカブレンド) have Monde Selection award-winning mocha blends for only ¥20–30 more. Always worth it.
- Iced coffee trick: For iced coffee, ask for a "bag of ice" separately and pour your hot coffee over it — some stores have ice-only dispensers. Alternatively, just order iced directly.
- Check the menu board: Each machine has a clear photo menu board above it. Point if you're not sure — staff are always happy to help.
